"The Summer Of Letting Go" By Gae Polisner: Book Launch Party at Book Revue in Huntington

The book title says SUMMER.
The calendar says SPRING.
And the weather forecast and actual temperature shouted WINTER!

Last night, when we were threatened with several inches of snow, (we actually got none!), we had a wonderfully warm and snow-free Book Launch at Book Revue in Huntington for Gae's newest book, "The Summer Of Letting Go".

Surrounded by family, friends, fans and fellow swimmers, Gae gave a terrific introduction to her newest YA creation. She included a Q&A and a 10 minute reading from THE SUMMER OF LETTING GO. After the reading, Yolanda leaned over to me and whispered, "I wonder if it comes in a Kindle edition?" It does! So Gae, you can count on at least one Kindle sale!

The rest of you will have to get your own copy. I'm sure Gae will be happy to autograph it for you at West Neck Beach after one of our Open Water Swims. Warmer weather is on the way... till then, see you in the pool!

A Saturday Swim with a Few Friends

March 1, 2014: Huntington NY. The sun is already up but the temperature outside certainly wasn't! But, we were lucky to be able to drive to the pool without worrying about snow on the roads -- we'll have that in another 36 hours or so as the forecast is for another Winter Snow Storm. Will Open Water Swimming EVER get here this year? I don't know about you, but I think it's been unusually cold and snowy winter!

Photo BELOW: Paul, Scott, Nancy, Mike, Sal, Margot, Chris and Katie

My thanks to Paval for taking the picture above and below so I could actually be in a photo. I need to do a brief explanation of the picture below.

As I was watching Paval take the picture above, I noted that he pushed the camera down as he clicked the shutter. Who knew that the camera was smart enough to self-correct and get a relatively in-focus photo? I didn't! And in the picture Paval snapped below, I was attempting to show him how to gently push down on the shutter without jerking the camera. He caught me and I guess that I will now have to admit to my wife that "Yes, I sometimes am a bit of a control freak".

Picture BELOW: Scott, Nancy, Mike's finger, Mike, Sal, Margot and Chris (Can you tell who is enjoying hearing Paval getting a lecture?)

Looks like Paval enjoyed the lecture too!

OK, Sal is going to have to tell us what he was thinking of in the picture below. The look cries out for a "thought bubble" but what? Any suggestions?

Picture BELOW: Tommy, Don, Sal, Sal's Eyes and Paul

Picture BELOW: Katie's got her elbow high coming into the wall. Sal is leading the line. And Paul, well, he tells me it's a flip turn but....

Picture BELOW: And, last into the workout (while I was on my way out) was Bob! But even a late swim is better than no swim! And, Bob did show up, unlike a number of other swimmers who we did not even see this Saturday morning.
