New Year's Eve Water Polo: December 31, 2012 at the Huntington Y

Thanks to Bob Miller for once again setting up our Annual Water Polo Splash and Dash from 1 to 2:00 PM on Monday, December 31, 2012. A special thanks to Jeff Urquhart for taking all the photos!

2012 Post Christmas / Pre-New Year's Get Together

Sit down and eat or stand up and drink... there were many options at our annual Christmas Get-Together which, for the first time in many years was NOT a brunch. It was a great time and really a LOT easier for the person setting it up as there was no set-up involved... just a "let's meet at Finley's on Thursday 12/27 around 6PM". It worked great as we probably had over 40 swimmers and friends attend. Thanks to all!

Andrew even made it all the way back from our nation's capitol... though, truth be told, I don't think he drove all that way JUST to go to the 2012 Swimmer's Party!

Carol and I did a bit of dueling cameras!

Book Your Table at "Chez YMCA"

Have you seen or booked a table at "Chez YMCA" yet?

No! Well, if you don't get there early, we can't guarantee you a seat but we are saving you a spot in the "Master's Lane" just about any morning you care to hop in the pool... and, Bob has been keeping the water VERY swimmable!

I wonder if we could borrow a few of these table and chair sets for Finley's next week!

Informal 2012 Holiday Party Scheduled for 12/27/2012

Well, I for one am blaming the fact that we never got our 2012 Swimmer's Christmas Brunch scheduled this year on Hurricane Sandy! So, in place of our normal brunch, a few of us will be getting together at Dr. Finley's Publick House on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 6PM. Some may eat. Some may drink. Some may do both. But all will have some holiday fun. Hope to see you there!

Risks From Ibuprofen Use

A recent New York Times story highlighted that the use of Ibuprofen by athletes could be a problem -- especially with regular and long-term use while exercising.

A Few Pictures from the 2012 Tobay Tri

Thanks to Bob Miller for sending these pictures -- my bad for waiting so long to actually look at my emails so I could download and post them! Texting seems to have taken over for emails... to say nothing about Facebook! If anyone has additional pictures, I'd be happy to post them.

West Neck Beach 1 & 2 Mile Swim: June 24, 2012

Under the watchful, and steely-eyed gaze of Lifeguards like Bob, the 2nd Annual West Neck Beach One and Two Mile Swim went off pretty much without a hitch -- especially if you ignore the early morning downed-tree on West Neck Road! Which, the town cleared away in record time!

If you were there, you know that the weather couldn't have been better! (Rob said he got his order in early!) I hope these pictures give you the feel of the event and, more importantly, if you weren't there that you'll see just why we love swimming at West Neck Beach, (some of us YEAR ROUND!), and that you'll join us in 2013 for the 3rd annual swim!

A Swimming Pool in the Shadow of the Grand Tetons (Jackson Hole, WY)

Over the Memorial Day holiday, I took a trip to Jackson Hole WY where I took LOTS of pictures of the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Great pictures of majestic mountains, endless vistas, wild animals -- including bear and bison.

Tons of nature pictures but since this is a SWIMMING website and I only managed to get in a one day swim, (at about 7,000 feet so if you think you get winded at the Y or at West Neck Beach you ain't seen nothing till you swim at altitude!), and the picture above shows where I swam (2,500 EASY yards) -- the rec center in Jackson WY. I even had my own lane! A few of the "real" vacation pictures are up on Facebook.
